just finished with the set up for tomorrow's critique session
seems like i will do just fine

Maybe the riddle is what your mind conjours

seems like i won't be able to have this printed by crit tomorrow.
the photo silkscreen emulsion has lost too much moisture, it's really thick and clumpy now. a few coated screens have met their wrath today after their first bath.

in an attempt to document for the sake of sketchbooking, i took this picture, to forget a continuation

anyway, the red colour i'm going for is not turning out right. it's too bright, which overpowers the blue so much that the whole concept might be lost. this means more test test test testing.

colour digital print postcards, $10 each
b&w digital print postcards, $8 each
minglemangle! zine, $8

i'm getting my postcards ready for submission before the closing date in 3 days time. i know it's kinda risky, but i'm sending it by post. here are what i've designed for the backs of the postcards.

Mourning Batik

"This type of sarong with blue on a cream background is known as sarong kelengan from Pekalongan. The colour suggests it would have been suitable for use in mourning."
p.100, a Peranakan legacy- The Heritage of the Straits Chinese, Peter Wee, 2010.

(mourning period: 2nd year-blue, 3rd year-green&blue)

back to the cave

it was so noisy, i packed my space and moved back in, which wasted quite a bit of time.
maybe its hormonal imbalance

baby baba buds

after much thought , i have decided that be it a pencil drawing or a pen drawing, i'm now going to convert them into silkscreens anyway. this means that i can continue drawing in pen, however, the ink used for the printing will be in a hue close to that of my pencil drawings, or an oriental blue like that of porcelain, however here it'll be used as a mourning colour in peranakan culture, to signify my take on the death of the race in due time. pen illustration, manipulated in photoshop

these baby baba buds:
will they ever blossom to their fullest?

things don't seem to be turning out right from the studies i have made. i can't draw in small scale, and it gets worse in pencil.

but i'm working things out.

i totally hate my pencil drawings now. i can't do small scale stuff when now i have to, which really frustrates me

Rusty Rat

he laid still in a corner of the road
with a crow pecking at its innards
no hope, he's dead.

Spring is LATE.

Being Nyonya: Lauma

incomplete

The cat on the car

I saw a cat on a car,
which looked really cute from afar.
But when i approached, my jaws were ajar,
for the poor little cat was covered in fresh scars.

I asked him, what happened?
he couldn't reply, just looked back, saddened
i waved him a farewell and just imagined
about how the little kitten got his infliction.

sudden news

sudden sadness

herzensart

really cute vikings by Herzensart by Sandra Monat!

whilst looking at the small editions in this site, i suddenly thought of creating a nyonya wallpaper of nyonyas falling amongst the modern technology! never thought of it before since i was trying to juxtapose just modern elements in the wallpaper.
expect fun, random twists from now!

Mike Perry

i chanced upon Mike Perry's website after taking a look at Scout books.

giant zines!
i love how whimsical these are

Alex Kopps

Limited edition screen prints signed and numbered by the artist.
The 18" x 24" prints are constructed from reassembled found paper.
The paper has been hand collected by the artist for this project.
The majority of the posters in this series are
two separate ink colors (dark brown and off white).
Since each poster is unique, every one has been
individually photographed and is presented here.
These prints were created for an art show in December of 2008.
This small edition of prints was made in collaboration with
Bloom Screen Printing in Oakland, California.

and here's a zine by Alex Kopps too.

Sarah Ogren

I love(the weird juxtaposition of hybrids) this series of works by Sarah Oegen. Check out her blog for more interesting combinations.

Lizzie Stewart

Lizzie Stewart is an illustrator living and working in Edinburgh. Her blog, http://thingsilikeaboutoday.blogspot.com/collates her work, interests and dresses she wish she could own. She is inspired by Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee.
Her work can also be seen at www.abouttoday.co.uk

I got a link to Sing Statistics from an interview i read about Lizzie Stewart here

Derek Alback

after looking at his works, it gave me a certain inspiration to carry on further with the Being Nyonya series- get friends to "be" nyonya?
i'm definitely heading towards using pencil to draw instead of the pen, which will be a challenge as i'm not used to it anymore. and unlike Derek Alback's works, mine'll be more subtle with the 'faded' effect(i hope) .
