i'm trying out a new combination of media.
it might not be foreign to you but the use of pen and pencil together in portraiture is rather new in my practice. i realised that i'm quite a purist whenever i draw, in a sense that i will only use one single medium to complete an image. It has never occured to me that i'd be able to combine two or three or more media in an image, unless i'm told. that's how myopic i can get.
this time after lining my sketch with my favourite range of unipin drawing pens, i added tones with pencil hatching, which actually softens the image, rather than the harsh hatches created solely with the pen, or attempting to blend and control chinese ink on paper.
