The Infinite Supply Of II: Proposal Pack Completed!

completed proposal packs!

My Thursdays are usually quite free if there are no relief duties. I report to work at 7.30am to attend a talk for teachers regarding Catholic Teachings in Sex Education, followed by assembly at 8.45am as school starts late on Thursdays at 9am. The only scheduled lesson i went for started at 12.55pm. With time to spare, I completed the proposal packages! : )

I'm really glad too, because I was able to add my illustrations to the envelopes at last!
I always try put others before self the best I can, a value that I have stuck to after joining the Brownies when I was 8 years old.

The Infinite Supply Of II: Proposal Pack Thinner Transfer

Here are some instructions to transferring your black and white photocopied images onto a surface. I've tried this method on Paper, Fabric, Wood and they all work well. Metal and other smooth surfaces are said to be more difficult to transfer onto, but no harm trying as well! : )

What You'll Need:
A Rag, Thinner (kangaroo brand lacquer thinner works well),
Fresh Photocopy of Subject, Surface (brown envelopes here)

Prepare all your materials, pour some thinner into a smaller jar for easy handling. Get ready your
photocopied image and ensure it's a mirror image of what you intend to replicate.

Position the photocopied image in place, then dip one end of the rag into thinner so that it is damp(not
dripping wet). Gently glide it over the back of the photocopied image, then apply more pressure.

Flip your image to check if the transfer is working/
if there are areas to touch up... and TADAH! : )

I have not tried this with colour photocopies yet, but I heard it works. If you are interested in transferring coloured material, there is another method which requires the use of acrylic gel medium. I'll update with step by step instructions if i happen to use it in my work.

The Infinite Supply Of II: Proposal Pack Thinner Transfer Designs

Transfers of illustrations by Mandy & Ashley, photos
of Xin's sculptures and Betty's handmade purse,
all shown in our recent T.I.S.O travelogue exhibition.

I had an idea for packaging our proposal for the part two of The Infinite Supply Of exhibition at Telok Blangah CC. I thought it would be nice for our other team members to take home a part of the exhibition with them, along with a hard copy of the proposals, in an envelope with an illustration of one of the artworks on it.

However, the envelope wouldn't feed into the photocopier, nor will it work in a laserjet, hence, thinner transfers will work best for this idea! :)

I'll upload a tutorial on how thinner transfer is done soon! Promise.

It was a good day of screen-printing. I have to thank Emily and Maria for allowing me access to the textiles workshop. If not for their assistance, I would have never been able to produce my own photo-silkscreen, and an opportunity for its prints to emerge on fabric (my first time!!) .

i'm starting to accept that i cannot help the imperfections that turned up during printing. hence, i'm not feeling that stressed at all. : )

the screen had problems again, while coating in the morning, the emulsion was very jelly-like with clumps of thick, hardened portions. had to deal with it.

here's the tiled width , one out of the
full length of 3m of brown polyester i got
the parts that didn't show up/are too
dark was due to the fact the the long
squeegee i usedhas been worn out at
the sides and hence, was unable to evenly
push ink through the screenprint's edge.

anyway, even though i'm disappointed, a positive consolation is that i was able to tile only width wise. also, ive decided to create fabric journals as the final pieces so i'll just use the good parts.

Marrick took baby Pachunkoo home and I'm glad!

mixing inks: want to get a print that looks
close to black but is actually dark chocolate brown

i didn't check my screen, didn't realise that
the coating was uneven, leading to this. . .
more of the right portion had too much ink
throughbecause the emulsion layer was too thin
as compared to the other areas zzzzzzzzz......

only the left part works for now
where printing is concerned.

my intention of printing a full 3m length of fabric for display in the surface design show cannot be done, unless i redo my screen again, and hope that it will work out. : ( that'll have to wait... till wednesday.
washed and coated screen at 11am, got my digital print done at 1.30pm on tracing paper(A0=$10 at NAFA's printing shop) before heading back to have my screen exposed at 3pm.

they've installed new yellow lights at the washing
area, which really helps in preventing over washing
at the unexposed areas on the screen. :)

wanted to create elongated pouches/pencil cases for the AWARE flea, and decided to make woodblock prints of long creatures to fit its shape.

not very happy with how it turned out . should have created a vector-like shape rather than an outline. a two piece block print will require too much effort to register. and i haven't mastered coloured woodcut registration yet!

TRANSMISSION:EXPERIENCE : Staring At Death Installation

Staring at Death Installation by Michy Witchy featured in TRANSMISSION: EXPERIENCE exhibition.

This artwork is an extension from my drawing, Staring At Death, 2009. The Kites for My Grandpa journal is also displayed as part of theupdated artwork , so as to put the installation into context.
(the person in charge of inserting the description of artwork in my label tag forgot about it :( so it was left blank. )

i'm creating studies today!
couldn't have done it without floaty's help with pasting the cut outs on the pre printed works. 0: )

4-layered screenprint on registration pvc

multiple-layered screenprints on registration pvc.
i wished i could never ever clean it off.

ffframmmmed!!!!!!!

i colour tested on one of the rejects, and realised that it's not that bad after all! 0: )
i'm quite happy, because i am confident now that i have seen progression in what i've been doing so far.
hopefully i'll be about 30-40% complete for assessments.

ready for printing

but... an oh-no! line

and i'm okay with it actually, no cause for panic.
it's been a while that i've accepted mistakes, because
i know that it is quite impossible to be accurate all
the time, and the assessors will have to understand
that i am human after all. also, i've tried my best.
moreover, it'll take many years for me to perfect
this skill, that i have a lack of practice of.

Planting Peonies

outside workshop now cutting almost everything i traced.

can you believe that these stacks are not even enough?
oh man . . . even mr angry who helped the entire day
didn't finish enough to cover everything i needed!
next time i need to think of an even faster plan.
it's just too bad that i'm not skilled enough to register
my prints properly yet. maybe an entire year of printing
might help. or maybe two years. or three. or four. . .

printed peonies waiting to be covered

screen printing the 'grape' layer

preparing the artwork for a third layer of print

registering the pre-printed image on pvc

bringing the screen down. . .

placing the ink and getting squeegee in position for a print

lift up the screen and tada!

close up of third layer

made it just in time to pack up.
i don't like this shade of pinkish-purple. it has to be darker, and more royal. means more ultramarine blue then.
