The Infinite Supply Of II: DIY Envelope Fasteners for Proposal Pack

I rarely see such envelopes in the market, well, those that i chance upon were found on plastic folders. The ones I found in Daiso are quite tacky with oversized white circles. Therefore, I decided to create my very own DIY envelopes!

What You'll Need:
Scissors, Blade, 20c coin, Pen, Scrap Paper (about 180gsm)
Cutting Mat, Some Brats (got a hundred for $6.90)
Embroidery Thread, Envelopes (7 in a pack for $2.00)

Trace around a 20c coin on your paper scrap, then cut them out.
(looking like Haw Flakes much?)

Use a pen to mark the centre of two similar cut circles, then with a
blade, slice through the middle to get a slit of no longer than 0.5mm.

Choose a pair of brats(you can mix and match them to your preference), then tie
one end of a piece of thread to the mid section of the brat and pierce it through the slit.

These are the fasteners, before being attached to the envelopes.

And there you have it! Your own DIY Envelope Fastener!

The Infinite Supply Of II: Proposal Pack Thinner Transfer

Here are some instructions to transferring your black and white photocopied images onto a surface. I've tried this method on Paper, Fabric, Wood and they all work well. Metal and other smooth surfaces are said to be more difficult to transfer onto, but no harm trying as well! : )

What You'll Need:
A Rag, Thinner (kangaroo brand lacquer thinner works well),
Fresh Photocopy of Subject, Surface (brown envelopes here)

Prepare all your materials, pour some thinner into a smaller jar for easy handling. Get ready your
photocopied image and ensure it's a mirror image of what you intend to replicate.

Position the photocopied image in place, then dip one end of the rag into thinner so that it is damp(not
dripping wet). Gently glide it over the back of the photocopied image, then apply more pressure.

Flip your image to check if the transfer is working/
if there are areas to touch up... and TADAH! : )

I have not tried this with colour photocopies yet, but I heard it works. If you are interested in transferring coloured material, there is another method which requires the use of acrylic gel medium. I'll update with step by step instructions if i happen to use it in my work.

Plaster Bandaid Casting with Mandy

I was at Mandy's after school today to lend her a hand, in this case, i'll be lending her a 'body'.

She has been working on a series of work that involves body casting, and I happened to be a willing party as I was interested to find out what my body in plaster form would look like. It had been part of a project that I didn't manage to complete too, years ago, so in some sense, it was like completing an unfinished business : )

I had to apply vaseline and lotion all over myself first before the plaster bandage covered me. This will allow the cast to be removed without hassel.

moving from the body to the shoulders...

next to the neck, chin and lips... wait for it to dry completely... then dislodge it!

TADA! It's makes for a photo opportunity too : )

Paper Bead Making, Updates and Painting

Ash'd do a better job than these samples.

finished reading After Dark and started painting these.

wanted to create elongated pouches/pencil cases for the AWARE flea, and decided to make woodblock prints of long creatures to fit its shape.

not very happy with how it turned out . should have created a vector-like shape rather than an outline. a two piece block print will require too much effort to register. and i haven't mastered coloured woodcut registration yet!

Canvas Bag : Attempt 1

Mama taught me how to use the SINGER sewing machine again after 10 years. I'm so old now and it's time to start training again for 50 bags.

after 2 hours and. . .a very badly made bag

I'm now worrying about the quality of the bags. I can't seem to sew as well as before on the treadle. i can see some improvements though, but i have to stop. Mama went to attend a funeral and can't tell me what's wrong with the jammed machine.
